Babygirl

Spoiler Alert: This publication contains spoilers for Babygirl. If you haven't seen the film yet and want to go in fresh, consider coming back after you've watched it!

It was Saturday night. My husband and I decided on a last minute impromptu date night to the cinemas. Luckily for us, the babysitting gods were on our side. It was a hot afternoon, the sun blazing down, and little wind to offer any kind of relief. We decided on an early dinner and some browsing at the local Big W just to escape the heat. I do love a good department store date to kill some time, even if the promise of air-conditioning was the real reason we were there. It always reminds me of that Sandra Bullock movie - Forces of Nature with Ben Affleck - where they spend the night in a department store, trying on clothes, pushing each other around in a shopping trolley, playing in the camping section. I imagine recreating that scene every time I step into a big department store.

I had seen a few reviews about the film Babygirl, and I wanted to see for myself what all the hype was about. I was also just a little turned on by the idea of going to the movies to see a film about Kink and BDSM. All I could think is, God I hope it’s better than Fifty Shades of Grey.

Acknowledgement of Country.

At Evolving Hearts, I honour the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung peoples as the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I recognise their deep and enduring connection to this sacred land - a connection rooted in ceremony, storytelling, and the honouring of life’s cycles for tens of thousands of years.

This ancient wisdom resonates deeply with the work I do, grounded in sacred sexuality and connection. Just as the First Nations peoples have always revered the rhythms of the land, I seek to honour the sacred rhythms and cycles within ourselves, embracing all aspects of who we are with respect, compassion, and love.

I believe there is so much to learn from the traditions of this Country’s original custodians - their ability to honour diversity, to live in harmony with the earth, and to celebrate life’s interconnectedness. These teachings inspire the heart-centered work I share with individuals and couples.

With deep gratitude, I pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and to the emerging leaders who continue to keep their culture alive. May we all walk forward together in truth, connection, and unity.
